Painted sheet metal: the surface of quality, the substance of an integrated process

    29 November, 2025

Summary

Surface finish is the calling card of any industrial product. It is the first element a user sees, touches and communicates, instantly conveying a message of quality and robustness. The painted plate represents today a technological solution of excellence to ensure a superior finish. However, a flawless result depends not only on the painting process itself, but also on the entire production chain that precedes and follows it. MIBA, thanks to its integrated approach, turns this treatment into a total quality guarantee, managing every step from metal preparation to final assembly. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Before even turning on a machine, before testing its functionality, the end user makes a judgment. He does so with his eyes and with his hands. A surface that is smooth, homogeneous, free of imperfections and robust to the touch sends an unmistakable message: this is a high-quality product, built to last. In contrast, a mediocre finish can compromise the perception of even the most advanced technology.

In the world of manufacturing, this first impression is not a detail, but a strategic element. For this reason, the choice of using a sheet metal painted is a decision that goes far beyond mere aesthetics. It means investing in a process that ensures not only a flawless appearance, but also superior technical performance in terms of strength and durability.

Paint and liquid paint: two complementary technologies

Miba offers its customers both painting solutions managed in outsourcing but fully integrated into its own production process. The most appropriate technology is chosen on a case-by-case basis, based on the project specifications and the technical and aesthetic features required by the customer.

Varnishing accounts for about 80% of the surface treatments handled by Miba, not because of any inherent qualitative superiority, but because of its more 'industrial" nature: this technology lends itself particularly well to mass production, ensuring high efficiency, robustness and durability of the coating.

Liquid coating, on the other hand, remains the ideal solution for specific applications that require:
  • Very fine and uniform finishes
  • Special and customized aesthetic effects
  • Treatment of complex geometries or those with deep cavities
  • Coloring with very precise color requirements

Both technologies are part of Miba's quality management, which coordinates the entire process ensuring the same standards of excellence regardless of the type of coating applied. This technological flexibility allows the customer to be offered the optimal solution for each specific design requirement.

Paint characteristics

Painting is a technologically advanced process that offers real benefits, especially in industrial, medical, or equipment applications for public places.
  1. Superior durability: the paint layer cures in the oven, creating a much harder and more durable coating. This results in greater protection against scratches, chipping, chemicals and corrosion. A product whose surface remains intact longer is one that maintains its value over time.
  2. Quality and uniformity: electrostatic process ensures that the powder adheres perfectly evenly over the entire surface, even on complex geometries, corners and edges. The result is a homogeneous film, free of runs or drops, with consistent aesthetic quality on every piece produced.
  3. Environmental sustainability: ale powder coatings do not contain Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), substances that are harmful to the environment and health. In addition, the powder that does not adhere to the part can be recovered and reused, drastically reducing waste.

These benefits make the painted plate the choice of choice for anyone who wants to ensure their product is "dressed" to match its internal technology.

The secret to a perfect result: MIBA's controlled process

Achieving a flawless finish, however, is not a given. The secret lies not only in the application of the paint, but, more importantly, in the surface preparation. This is where MIBA's integrated model makes the difference.

A paint, no matter how well it performs, will never properly adhere to an impure or poorly processed surface. Since our Carpentry Division produces the metal component in-house, we have total control over the most critical stage of the process. We ensure that every part that comes off our lines is perfectly prepared for painting, through specific cleaning, degreasing and pre-treatment processes that ensure maximum adhesion.

Next, we rely on an established network of specialized and certified partners for the actual painting phase. In this, MIBA acts as sole manager and guarantor of quality. The customer does not have to manage different suppliers; they interface exclusively with us. Each batch of painted plate re-enters our factory and undergoes rigorous quality control (thickness, adhesion, color, no defects) before being approved. This rigorous process is the basis of our philosophy "Free Pass": The component arrives at the customer already verified and ready for the next step.

Beyond the surface: integration into the finished product

A panel or a frame painted is rarely the final product. They often have to become part of complex electromechanical equipment. This is where our added value becomes even more apparent.

Once the painted or liquid-coated sheet metal  passed our inspections, it is not simply packaged, but enters the flow of our Equipment Division. Our skilled technicians proceed to assemble electronic components, wirings, displays, locks, and any other elements required by the project.

Managing both the production of the finished metal part and its final assembly in-house eliminates a huge operational risk: that of damaging the valuable surface finish during handling between different suppliers. With MIBA, the part remains under our control, ensuring that the final product is both aesthetically and functionally flawless.

The quality that shows and lasts

The quality of a Painted sheet metal, as well as liquid, is a direct reflection of the quality of the process that produces it. Choose MIBA means relying on a partner who does not just handle a single treatment, but orchestrates the entire process: from designing the blank to its meticulous preparation, from managing the painting to its assembly final.

The result is a product whose quality can be seen at first glance, touched and appreciated over time.
